UAE's LNG Export Plans: Meeting Global Demand (2026)

The world is hungry for natural gas, and the United Arab Emirates is ready to feed that hunger. Energy Minister Suhail al-Mazrouei announced on Monday that the UAE is not just focused on meeting its own needs for liquefied natural gas (LNG) but also plans to significantly increase its exports. This comes as global demand for natural gas is surging, outpacing the current investment in production.

During the Abu Dhabi Financial Week, Mazrouei echoed the sentiments of Qatar's energy minister, highlighting the imbalance between the growing demand and the available supply. The UAE's strategy involves a two-pronged approach: ensuring sufficient LNG for domestic use and expanding its export capabilities to capitalize on the rising global demand.

But here's where it gets interesting: Qatar's Energy Minister, Saad al-Kaabi, predicts that LNG demand will remain robust, driven in part by the increasing energy needs of artificial intelligence. He forecasts that LNG demand could reach an astounding 600–700 million tons per year by 2035.

Adding to this ambitious plan, XRG, the international investment arm of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, has set its sights on a gas and LNG business with a capacity of 20 to 25 million metric tons per year by 2035. This shows a clear commitment to becoming a major player in the global LNG market.

This is a bold move, considering the current global energy landscape. Do you think the UAE's strategy is a smart one? Will they be able to meet their ambitious export goals? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
